Chelsea in talks over new deals for Fikayo Tomori and Tammy Abraham

Chelsea are hopeful of tying down Fikayo Tomori and Tammy Abraham on long-term deals in the coming weeks.

The pair were recognised for their fine starts to the season at Stamford Bridge with call-ups to Gareth Southgate’s latest England squad, ahead of this month’s Euro 2020 qualifiers against the Czech Republic and Bulgaria.

Tomori has less than two years left on a contract he signed prior to spending last season on loan at Derby. The 21-year-old has started four Premier League games this season and made his Champions League debut in Wednesday’s 2-1 victory at Lille.

Talks are at an early stage but Tomori is set for a significant increase on his current salary as the Blues seek to reward him and Abraham for their recent form. The centre-back is keen to stay at the club and has hailed the impact Chelsea head coach Frank Lampard has had on his career.

“Hearing that the manager has confidence and faith in me is good and only makes me play better,” said Tomori. “He’s been helping me a lot.

“Obviously, last year at Derby, he helped me a lot and this year he’s told me how I can fit into the team and what I need to do to improve. I’ve just tried to do that.”

Abraham’s situation is less urgent, given his existing deal runs until 2022, but the club have been talking to the striker for weeks about a deal which would double his present £50,000-a-week wages.

Should the pair commit their futures to Chelsea, they would follow in the footsteps of fellow youngsters Mason Mount and Callum Hudson-Odoi, who both recently signed new contracts.
