Chelsea in line to receive surprise windfall to boost Frank Lampard's summer transfer budget

Chelsea have reportedly decided against using their buyback clause for Sassuolo winger Jeremie Boga.

Boga, who joined the Serie A side for £2.7m a couple of years ago, was said to be attracting interest from his former club, Barcelona as well as several clubs from around Europe.

And amid talk that the Blues can resign Boga for €15m (£12.7m), it was confirmed by Sassuolo CEO Giovanni Carnevalli that the Blues do have an buy-back option on the 23-year-old.

Chelsea Q&A with Oliver Harbord

Although, it would appear the agreement is only valid until June.

"Chelsea can redeem him in June," he said, as per Tuttomercatoweb - via Sport Witness. "We have excellent relationships with them, we met them with them before Christmas also for other operations, because we like it as we did with Barcelona, to have a collaborative relationship.

"They can take him back, but we can also do an operation together, we can take him back, there is total openness."

Well, according to the Guardian, Boga won't be returning to Stamford Bridge this summer.

However, he could still play a major role in the business the west London outfit plan to do when the transfer window does reopen.

This is because the aforementioned report claims Chelsea are instead negotiating with the Serie A outfit to include a sell-on clause for the Ivory Coast international, who is likely to be sold this summer.

It's a scenario that would boost head coach Frank Lampard's transfer budget as the Blues would be entitled to a percentage of any fee Sassuolo receive.

It remains to be seen what the details are in regards to the sell-on clause, but given Boga's form this season it's wouldn't be a shock if Chelsea attempt to negotiate the best deal possible as interest in the winger will be high.

Boga has certainly enjoyed a new lease of life in Italy as this season he's netted eight goals and weighed in with four assists in 25 Serie A appearances.
