Chelsea icon urges Todd Boehly to snub £78million transfer for World Cup star amid January plans

Chelsea are set to be one of the busiest Premier League clubs in the January transfer window. Todd Boehly is preparing plans to back Graham Potter with new signings as the Blues look to reinforce all areas of the squad.

Cristiano Ronaldo and Youssoufa Moukoko have both been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge to strengthen the attack. Following Armando Broja's anterior cruciate ligament injury, Potter's attacking options have been significantly weakened with the Albanian forward set to miss the remainder of the season.

Chelsea spent over £100million on defenders in the summer transfer window, bringing in Kalidou Koulibaly, Marc Cucurella and Wesley Fofana. RB Leipzig defender Josko Gvardiol has been heavily linked with a £78million switch to Stamford Bridge after he impressed for Croatia at the World Cup.

Despite Gvardiol's talent and impressive performances, former Blues defender William Gallas does not think the west London outfit should reignite their interest in the 20-year-old. When asked if Chelsea should renew their interest in Gvardiol, Gallas told Genting Casino: "*Shakes his head* Do you think Chelsea need him right now? They have defenders, so that is a problem.

"I don’t think that right now Chelsea needs him because they already have their centre backs. In the future? Maybe they will move for him, but they should have signed him in the summer before they spent a lot of money on other defenders.

"Now they are apparently looking for a striker and even a midfielder. Bellingham was the perfect player for them, but they didn’t make a move in the summer. I don’t know what Chelsea and the owners are doing."

Gallas has questioned Boehly's transfer strategy after a number of his summer signings have failed to perform to expectations. Gallas added: "If Chelsea don’t finish in the top four, Todd Boehly would have failed.

"There can be no excuses for a club like Chelsea finishing outside of the top four. We are always very quick to judge players on their performance and it should be the same for the owner. He arrived and spent a lot of money, but if he doesn’t qualify for the top four he would have failed."
