Chelsea have already secured crucial £32m windfall ahead of January transfer window

May 2021 is a month that will live long in the memory of Chelsea fans as they saw their side lift a second Champions League title thanks to a 1-0 victory against Manchester City.

Kai Havertz rounded Ederson in the first half to give Thomas Tuchel's side the lead and they held on in typically resolute fashion, allowing Cesar Azpilicueta to get his hands on the famous trophy.

Defending the Champions League is one of the toughest challenges in football. Real Madrid winning three in a row in the modern era is a ridiculous anomaly.

But Chelsea are on their way, having qualified second in their group and bagging a favourable last-16 tie against Lille - in both the original draw and re-drawn version.

Tuchel will be confident of taking his side to the quarter finals then. However, Chelsea have already profited significantly from this season's competition.

An analysis of UEFA's prize money by Swiss Ramble on Twitter revealed that the Blues have already pocketed over £32million from this year's tournament alone.

The data reveals that each of the 32 clubs who qualify for the group stages automatically receives €15.64 million, as well as an additional €2.8 million for each win and €930,000 per draw.

Getting out of the group stages and into the last-16 earns you another €9.6 million. This means that, in total, Chelsea have already earned €37.37 million (£31.8 million) in prize money.

That is not even taking into account the significant amount given to clubs from TV revenues for the competitions, but official figures for that are not available.

If Chelsea beat Lille in the last 16 , another €10.6 million will come their way. A place in the semi-finals would then earn a further €12.5 million, while reaching back-to-back finals would pocket the Blues €15.5 million.

Win the competition again and they will receive €20 million in prize money and if Chelsea can do so, they will have received €95.9 million (£80.8 million) in total.
