Chelsea handed major injury concern as Romelu Lukaku withdraws from Belgium squad

Romelu Lukaku has withdrawn from the Belgium international squad following an injury.

The frontman was due to play in the Nations League third and fourth play-off against Italy tomorrow, but has had to leave the squad due to a muscle fatigue.

Calciomercato reported earlier today that Lukaku trained separately in their session this morning, and was forced to see the team's doctors for an examination.

Belgium boss Roberto Martinez addressed the issue in his pre-match press conference, and stated that he is suffering from a similar issue to former Blues fan favourite, Eden Hazard.

"Romelu Lukaku is suffering from muscle fatigue, same as Eden Hazard," he said.

"They're not in best conditions to play. They're leaving the national team camp due to these problems - I don't know how long it will take."

The news has concerned Chelsea supporters, who are panicking that Lukaku won't be fit for their clash against Brentford on October 16 and thereafter.

Chelsea have raced into an early lead in the Premier League this season.

The Blues have only conceded three goals in seven games so far as they’ve taken 16 points from a possible 21.

Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United follow closely behind, but Thomas Tuchel’s team believe they can challenge for the title.

Although the injury sounds as though it's not too serious, if Lukaku is out for a considerable amount of time, it could well halt the Blues' progress.
