Christian Pulisic will miss the USA's World Cup qualifying clash with El Salvador as he hasn't been deemed fit enough to play.
The American contracted coronavirus prior to Chelsea's clash with Arsenal on August 22 but even though his 10-day quarantine period has ended, the US national team are taking no risks before their first World Cup qualifier.
Despite scoring in the 3-0 win over Crystal Palace, Pulisic tested positive for Covid-19 and as a result had to miss the following trips to Arsenal and Liverpool.
Taking to Instagram prior to the trip to the Emirates, he said: “Hi all, Unfortunately I tested positive for Covid-19 earlier this week. Thankfully I’m fully vaccinated and I have no symptoms so far.
“Can’t wait to get back in action! Thank you for your support.”
Now that his quarantine period has ended, he should be available moving forward, and will hopefully feature in some part in one of the USA's next two qualifiers against Canada and Hondurus.
He stayed behind in the USA to regain fitness and is subsequently being monitored day-to-day.
The news was confirmed by the national team's head coach, Gregg Berhalter, during his pre-match press conference, via CBS.
"Christian Pulisic did not travel with the team," Berhalter said. "He will not be playing. He's listed as day-to-day."
Chelsea fans will be hoping Pulisic makes a full recovery before the Blues' clash with Aston Villa in the Premier League on September 11.
The 22-year-old has never been a guaranteed starter under Thomas Tuchel but is certainly part of his plans.
