Chelsea handed Kai Havertz warning following £20m transfer boost

Bayer Leverkusen failed to qualify for the Champions League despite a 1-0 win over Mainz as the Bundesliga season came to a close.

Kevin Volland handed the German side victory but Leverkusen had to settle for fifth place as RB Leipzig defeated Augsburg and Borussia Mönchengladbach earned victory over Hertha Berlin.

Could this have impacted the future of Kai Havertz? Reports suggested that Leverkusen had been asking for a fee in the region of £90m but their failure to qualify for Europe's premiere competition could see the figure drop closer to Chelsea's £70m valuation.

However, speaking after the clash, Bayer Leverkusen boss Peter Bosz seemed unconcerned about the prospect of Havertz departing

Bosz said: "I don’t feel that he is thinking too much about transferring.

"I certainly don’t have the impression that this will be his last game for the club. He is still under contract with us and I have to assume that he will be with us next season too.

"That will include the German Cup final next month and the next Europa League game against Rangers in August.

"Of course, that’s all dependent on nothing happening before then."

Frank Lampard was asked about the prospect of landing the Bundesliga star but was non-commital in his press conference.

The Blues boss said: "He’s a top player but we’re certainly not going to comment on players at other teams.

"It cannot be our focus. No bids have gone in."
