Chelsea handed injury boost ahead of Liverpool trip

Chelsea have been handed a selection boost ahead of their Premier League clash with Liverpool on Thursday night.

Having been forced off at half-time against Manchester United on Sunday afternoon, Callum Hudson-Odoi has recovered from an injury (thigh) which required treatment pitchside at Stamford Bridge.

He was later pictured on the sidelines nursing an ice pack, but the decision to replace him wasn't entirely down to injury - with Reece James summoned from the bench as his replacement.

It means Thomas Tuchel, who came under the microscope for his recent treatment of Hudson-Odoi, will have a near full quota of players available for his first meeting in England with Jurgen Klopp - his fellow German.

Here is the current state of play with injuries at Liverpool's midweek opponents, following their Hudson-Odoi boost.

Callum Hudson-Odoi

Injury: Thigh (on February 28 vs Man United)

What Tuchel has said: "He was a little bit injured. The reason (that he was replaced) was a tactical reason and a little injury, a combination, because we switched to a back five in defence and covered the wide position from (Marcus) Rashford in between (Cesar) Azpilicueta and Reece James. That was not an option to use Callum there and that's why it was a tactical choice."

Expected return date: March 4 (vs Liverpool)

Thiago Silva

Injury: Thigh (on February 4 vs Spurs)

What Tuchel has said: "He did an individual session last week, but a session on the pitch and felt it was a big progress, a big step ahead for him. So I hope he will join the group next week."

Possible return date: March 8 (vs Everton)
