It has already been a busy transfer window for Chelsea so far.
The Blues have bought five new faces to Stamford Bridge and are on the verge of adding a sixth as they close in on Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Kai Havertz who has been a primary target for the club this window.
Should a move for Havertz go ahead as expected then he will join new recruits Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner, Ben Chilwell, Malang Sarr, and Thiago Silva at the club ahead of the new season which starts in under two weeks’ time.
Even after bringing Havertz to the club, Frank Lampard will continue to look to strengthen his squad before the transfer window closes in just over a month's time.
One position that the Chelsea boss would like to strengthen is the goalkeeper, with Kepa Arrizabalaga having endured a disappointing season in 2019/20.
A number of goalkeepers have been linked with a summer move to Stamford Bridge including Dean Henderson and Jan Oblak, but both seem to be out of Chelsea’s reach with the former having agreed a new contract at Manchester United.
That means that the Blues have moved onto other targets.
Reports claim that they have seen an initial offer of £14.2 million rejected for Rennes goalkeeper Edouard Mendy but the Evening Standard report that they are expected to return with a second bid.
And Chelsea may have just received a signal to make their move for the 28-year-old.
According to L’Equipe, Rennes are targeting Paris Saint Germain goalkeeper Alphonse Areola as a replacement for Mendy.
The shot-stopper spent last season on loan at Real Madrid but have since returned to the French capital and could again be available on a temporary deal.
Although the player is said to prefer a move to the Premier League, he could move to Rennes in search of game time.
That move would then free up Edouard to complete a transfer to Chelsea ahead of the deadline.
