Chelsea handed double transfer blow with targets eyeing other destinations

Chelsea are facing an uphill battle to land two of their transfer targets when the window opens with suggestions that Dries Mertens and Jude Bellingham have their eyes set on other destinations.

While no agreements have been struck yet, reports in Italy indicate that Mertens is more inclined to remain in Serie A.

The Belgian striker's contract at Napoli runs out at the end of June but Sky Italia have said that he wants to stay in the league.

Antonio Conte's Internazionale have already registered their interest.

Chelsea made an attempt to sign the Neapolitans' record goalscorer in January but were unable to strike a deal.

Bellingham, meanwhile, has been promised a first-team role at Manchester United should he choose to move to Old Trafford.

The 16-year-old was pictured at the club's Carrington training ground with his family back in March but Chelsea have also made it known that they admire his talents.

However, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has provided assurances that he would immediately be part of the first-team set up rather than continue his development with their development side.

Birmingham City, who are in a difficult financial position, would likely accept a bid of about £30million for a player who has already been branded a generational talent following his breakthrough in the Sky Bet Championship.

United also remain interested in Borussia Dortmund's Jadon Sancho but the childhood Chelsea fan will cost a significant amount and their executive vice-chairman, Ed Woodward, has already cautioned about big spending in the immediate aftermath of the coronavirus pandemic.

Adding another layer to the transfer rivalry growing between the clubs, United academy graduate Angel Gomes is being tracked closely by Chelsea.
