Chelsea have been handed a blow in their hopes to recruit Dean Henderson from Manchester United.
The Blues are actively looking to sign a new goalkeeper to compete with Kepa Arrizabalaga next season.
Chelsea saw a bid for Rennes shot-stopper Edouard Mendy rejected but are expected to up their offer after a move for Henderson was ruled out.
Jan Oblak and Mike Maignan have also been linked alongside Henderson but the latter will not be moving to Stamford Bridge.
Henderson penned a new five-year deal at Old Trafford last week, but any hopes of Chelsea now getting the goalkeeper on a loan deal seem to have gone.
The MEN report Henderson has agreed to spend the 2020-21 campaign with his parent club and will go 'head-to-head' with De Gea in goal.
The 23-year-old spent last season on loan at Sheffield United and his form earned international recognition.
Despite hopes to oust Jordan Pickford from the England number one shirt, Henderson has not been assured of starting the season ahead of De Gea for next season.
However, both parties agreed that he will stay and fight with De Gea after penning his £120,000-a-week contract last week.
It also means that Sergio Romero is destined to leave the club this summer after dropping to third choice behind Henderson.
Chelsea could see the 33-year-old as a perfect signing to compete with Arrizzabalaga although it remains to be seen if the Argentinian would be allowed to leave to join a direct rival.
