Chelsea face Mason Mount injury blow ahead of Liverpool clash as midfielder limps off

Chelsea were handed another injury blow just 16 minutes into their Champions League opener against Valencia tonight at Stamford Bridge.

Less than a quarter of the way through the match, Mason Mount was the latest to go down with a problem after a heavy challenge from Francis Coquelin.

The former Arsenal man went through the Chelsea player and caught him high on the ankle, with Mount's leg bending in a bad position.

Coquelin escaped with just a yellow card from referee Cuneyt Cakir, but it could have been a lot worse.

The 20-year-old immediately asked for treatment when he went down, looking concerned, but able to carry on.

However, Mount was obviously in some pain and continued to limp. At one point, he tried to play a simple pass and was clearly in agony.

And that was it for the England international, who went down for the final time and was then replaced by Pedro.

The midfielder was clearly emotional as he walked down the tunnel, with his dream Champions League debut coming to an end too early.

It's another big blow for Frank Lampard, who was already missing Antonio Rudiger, Emerson and N'Golo Kante through injuries.

Mount has been a big part of the team already this season with three Premier League goals to his name and the Blues facing Liverpool on Sunday afternoon.
