Matt Murray believes Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga isn’t in the elite bracket of stoppers in the Premier League.
The Blues completed the signing of Arrizabalaga from Athletic Bilbao for £71million in the summer of 2018 - the highest fee ever paid for a goalkeeper, and a club record transfer.
But despite arriving at Stamford Bridge with an impressive reputation, the world's most expensive goalkeeper has failed to meet the expectations of many Blues fans, and is yet to keep a domestic clean sheet away from home in 2019.
And Murray, who made 100 appearances for Wolves between the sticks, believes the Spaniard still has work to do before becoming as good as Alisson or Ederson.
“When you look at the money that Manchester City, or how good their goalkeeper is. Or Alisson here and how good he is. I don’t think Kepa is on that level,” Murray told Sky Sports.
“I think Leno is fantastic. A very good shot stopper who needs more protection. One of the reasons Arsenal have maybe got more points than they should have.
“I think Kepa is settling more and more. But he’s not the biggest. He doesn't fill the goal. He’s got great distribution and he’s starting to make bigger saves.
“But I still feel that if you are looking at the real, real elite, he is not quite there yet for me. You can say he is young for a goalkeeper but when the price tag is what it is then he has got to come in and hit the ground running.
“I think he has done alright and he is still adjusting to the Premier League. But I don’t put him in that real elite of Premier League goalkeepers.”
