Chelsea flop Kepa Arrizabalaga 'set for loan transfer' away from Blues after Edouard Mendy signing

Chelsea are set to send out Kepa Arrizabalaga on loan before the transfer window closes, it has been claimed.

The Blues' record signing has endured a torrid in time goal over the last few months, making several high-profile mistakes.

Kepa's latest howler came in Chelsea's 2-0 defeat to Liverpool last weekend, with the Spaniard gifting Sadio Mane his and the Reds' second goal of the game with a lazy attempt of a pass.

And according to reports, the Spain international's latest howler has prompted Blues boss Frank Lampard to loan him out.

That's according to The Sun , who claim the west Londoners will entertain offers for the former Atletic Bilbao man's services.

Lampard's reported decision to field approaches for Kepa comes after Chelsea completed the signing of Senegal goalkeeper Edouard Mendy.

Mendy joined last season's beaten FA Cup finalists from Rennes on Thursday for a fee believed to be in the region of £27million.

The 28-year-old is ecstatic with his move to west London, saying: “I am so excited to be joining Chelsea. It’s a dream for me to be a part of this exciting squad. I can’t wait to get started.”

Many believe Mendy will immediately replace Kepa in the Blues' starting XI, although that can't be said of Liverpool legend John Barnes.

"This [Mendy’s arrival] won’t put too much pressure on Kepa for the number one spot," Barnes told BonusCodeBets. "Edouard Mendy isn’t exactly a household name that a lot of people know about so he will immediately be under pressure if they put him straight in.

"With the new goalkeeper [Edouard Mendy] expected to join Chelsea this week, this won’t put too much pressure on Kepa for the number one spot.

"Edouard Mendy isn’t exactly a household name that a lot of people know about so he will immediately be under pressure if they put him straight in.

"If Chelsea were to sign Jan Oblak or Manuel Neuer, they can put him in straight away and if he makes a mistake, fans would let it slide as they know he is a top goalkeeper.

"However, if they put this new goalkeeper in at the start and he makes a mistake, fans will be asking for Kepa to be brought back in.

"Chelsea signing Edouard Mendy will not install confidence in the fans as they know that he won’t be directly replacing Kepa.

"With the amount of money that Chelsea paid for Kepa Arrizabalaga, fans should know that they spent that amount because of how good he was, so people need to remember that."
