Chelsea FC vs Porto Champions League ties to take place at Sevilla’s Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium

Both legs of Chelsea’s upcoming Champions League quarter-final tie against FC Porto will be played in Spain, it has been confirmed.

Thomas Tuchel’s in-form Blues will face the Portuguese giants at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium - home of LaLiga outfit Sevilla - instead of Porto’s Estadio do Dragao on April 7.

Chelsea’s ‘home’ leg will also take place in Seville - where Olivier Giroud memorably scored all four goals in a group stage rout in December - rather than at Stamford Bridge six days later on April 13.

The decision has been made in light of ongoing Covid-19-related travel restrictions in Europe, with Portugal having previously been on the UK’s “red list”.

The travel ban on UK arrivals to Spain is set to be lifted on March 30, meaning Liverpool can play the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie against Real Madrid at the Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano, while Manchester United are set to travel to Granada for the first leg of their Europa League last-eight tie.

This is not the first time that Chelsea will have played a Champions League match on neutral territory this season, with the first leg of their last-16 tie against Atletico Madrid held at the National Arena in the Romanian capital of Bucharest.
