Chelsea FC sign Marcus Bettinelli as new third-choice goalkeeper after he leaves Fulham

Chelsea have completed the signing of goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli.

The 29-year-old was a free agent after leaving Fulham and has moved to Stamford Bridge on a two-year contract.

Bettinelli will be Chelsea’s new third-choice goalkeeper behind Edouard Mendy and Kepa Arrizabalaga.

The Blues have been looking to sign a new goalkeeper after the departure of Willy Caballero last month.

Bettinelli, who made 120 appearances for Fulham, was called up to the England squad by a Gareth Southgate in September 2018.

But he fell out of favour at Fulham and was loaned out to Middlesbrough last season.

After joining Chelsea, Bettinelli said: “It’s always been a special club. I know the area very well so it’s been a dream of mine to come over to this side and it’s finally happened.

“There were some talks a few years ago when I was a bit younger and for whatever reason that didn’t come about but I’m here now.

“I’m really excited to be involved and looking forward to trying to impress and help the team as much as I can.”
