Chelsea FC’s Jorginho named best player in the Premier League

Chelsea midfielder Jorginho has been named as the best player in the Premier League, with Arsenal's Granit Xhaka and Brighton's Pascal Gross also in the top 10.

In data developed by the CIES Football Observatory, the Brazil-born Italian tops the league table for Premier League table and comes in third behind Lionel Messi and Robert Lewandowski across Europe.

Beyond Jorginho, Xhaka and Gross, the remaining top 10 are made up of Thiago Alcantara, Harry Kane, Luke Shaw, Wilfred Ndidi and Ruben Dias.

CIES describe the process behind their findings as "robust" and cover the last 1,000 minutes each player has played across Europe's top five leagues; the Premier League, La Liga, Serie A, the Bundesliga and Ligue 1. More on their "methodology is here.

Jorginho is enjoying his third season with Chelsea, having followed his Naples manager Maurizio Sarri to Stamford Bridge in 2018.

Reports of a return of Italy have been a staple of his time following Sarri's sacking, with Jorginho recently describing his feelings towards Naples.

He told Canale21: "There are no words to describe how much I miss Naples.

"Who wouldn't miss Naples? It's so cold in London, they don't even know what the sun is."
