Chelsea FC return 900 Champions League Final tickets after fans refuse to cough up

Chelsea have returned as many as 900 Champions League Final tickets after fans opted against purchasing.

Around a sixth of their allocation, understood to be mainly from the 3,000 charter packages which included flights to Porto, were sent back to Uefa last week.

Prices ranged from £60.50 for a matchday ticket to £515 for a full travel package to Porto, the new venue following talks over a Wembley move failed.

Dan Silver, a board member of Chelsea Supporters’ Trust (CST), told the BBC: “Uefa’s lack of care for fans has again come to the fore. They came to be our friends over the European Super League but now they have turned their backs on us again.

“Uefa’s insistence on having charter flights – initially linked to 90% of tickets, which the clubs pushed back on – spending only 24 hours in Portugal with added Covid testing and additional costs have made it very prohibitive.

“Selling tickets for up to €400 for a limited-access final with unnecessary travel is outrageous when there were obvious solutions closer to home.”

Chelsea, along with opponents Manchester City, were given around 5,800 tickets each. City have sold out their allocation, with owner Sheikh Mansour funding the travel costs for supporters.

The Dragao Stadium in Porto will host a reduced number of 16,500 in its 50,000-seater capacity, with Uefa welcoming a number of officials and sponsors.
