Chelsea FC race to sign Jules Kounde as Kurt Zouma completes West Ham medical

Chelsea will make another push to sign Sevilla defender Jules Kounde after Kurt Zouma completed his West Ham medical ahead of a £25million move.

However, the Stamford Bridge club have been warned by Sevilla president Jose Castro that "days are running out" for them to strike a deal for Kounde.

The 22-year-old centre-back has a £68million release clause but, after spending £97.5m on Romelu Lukaku, Chelsea hope to negotiate the fee down to about £43m.

Castro says his club will consider offers before Tuesday's transfer deadline but said: "At the moment Kounde is a Sevilla player. We always study the offers that may come. But the days are running out, for now there is nothing."

The 26-year-old underwent his West Ham medical in Paris yesterday, having returned to his home country due to personal reasons.

Zouma has agreed a five-year deal after the Hammers managed to negotiate him down from his original wage demands of £125,000 a week.

Paperwork for the deal was not expected to be completed in time for Zouma to be in the West Ham squad against Crystal Palace tomorrow.

West Ham were today set to find out who they will face in the Europa League group stage, while Chelsea were yesterday drawn against Juventus, Zenit and Malmo in the Champions League group stage.
