Chelsea FC player ratings vs Porto: N’Golo Kante and Jorginho impress on a quiet night for Mason Mount

Chelsea progressed to the semi-finals of the Champions League despite a 1-0 defeat in the second leg of their quarter-final against Porto.

The Blues went through 2-1 on aggregate.

Here’s how James Robson assessed the Chelsea players on Tuesday night…

Edouard Mendy 6

One error in the first half had hearts in mouths, but was down well to save from Taremi. Well-protected by those in front him.

Cesar Azpilicueta 7

One of the standout players of the first leg and in total control again here.

Thiago Silva 7

A very comfortable night after so little action in recent weeks. Porto had plenty of the ball – but found precious little space behind the Brazilian.

Toni Rudiger 7

Part of a very solid Chelsea rear-guard that was rarely stretched by a Porto side lacking in imagination.

Reece James 6

Wicked cross was so close to reaching the run of Pulisic. Defensively kept Porto at bay.

Jorginho 8

So calm in the face of Porto pressure. His assuredness on the ball got Chelsea out of trouble on a number of occasions as the Portuguese side pressed.

N’Golo Kante 8

Early tackle on Grujic summed up his game. His ball-winning and driving runs frequently broke up Porto’s attempts to get control of the game.

Ben Chilwell 7

Vital block from Grujic shot, but caught out by Corona, who blasted over with only the keeper to beat. Attacking runs were one of Chelsea’s biggest threats.

Mason Mount 6

One of his quieter nights, yet no shortage of work-rate. Kept trying to find space to hurt Porto.

Kai Havertz 6

Nothing like the attacking threat he posed against Crystal Palace and it remains to be seen if he is the answer in the centre – but a really hard-working performance where he defended from the front.

Christian Pulisic 7

Some bright moments going forward and should have done better when presented with a second half chance from close range.

Hakim Ziyech (Mount, 86’) N/A

Olivier Giroud (Havertz, 90+2’) N/A

Substitutes not used: Caballero, Kepa, Christensen, Zouma, Alonso, Emerson, Hudson-Odoi, Abraham, Werner.
