Chelsea FC, Liverpool qualify for Champions League as Leicester City miss out on Premier League top four

Chelsea and Liverpool will join Manchester United and Man City in the Champions League after securing top-four finishes on the final day of the Premier League season, with Leicester City missing out.

The dramatic battle for a top four spot went down to the last game of the 2020/21 campaign, with Liverpool leapfrogging Leicester into fourth on the penultimate gameweek to set up a nail-biting finale.

Leicester's 2-1 loss to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge last week allowed Liverpool the chance to sneak back into the fight, beating Burnley 3-0 to go fourth on on goal difference.

That left Chelsea and Liverpool knowing that if they beat Aston Villa and Crystal Palace respectively on the final day of the season, they would be playing in the Champions League next season.

Leicester knew they needed at least one of their rivals to slip up while also getting at least a draw at home to Spurs.

Unfortunately for FA Cup winners Leicester, a 4-2 home defeat against Tottenham let Chelsea off the hook after they lost 2-1 at Villa Park - and a 2-0 win for Liverpool saw them finish third.
