Chelsea favourite reveals how Frank Lampard has ‘galvanised’ the Blues following appointment

Former Chelsea star Joe Cole believes Frank Lampard has ‘galvanised’ his former club since his return.

Lampard was named as Chelsea's new boss following Maurizio Sarri’s departure to Juventus at the start of this month, despite only having a year of senior football management under his belt.

But Cole, a former team-mate of Lampard's, believes the Blues' all-time record goalscorer was exactly what the club needed and has backed the 41-year-old to give the club's young players a chance.

“He’s galvanised the club. No one would have asked for the club to be handed a transfer ban, but it’s allowed them to take a step back,” Cole told talkSPORT .

“Frank’s the right man at the right time. Younger players in and around the building are seeing that they’re going to get an opportunity.

“Frank’s being very clever and he’s said he’s going to pick players that are ready.

“When you get the chance you have to take it, which is easier said than done when it comes to young players.”
