Chelsea supporters have been left kicking themselves after a Trent Alexander-Arnold chant came back to haunt them.
The Reds were already leading 1-0 thanks to Sadio Mane’s opener when Chelsea fans decided to take aim at the Liverpool full-back.
As Alexander-Arnold went over to take a corner, Chelsea supporters sung: “You’re just a s**t Reece James,” at the Liverpool defender.
But just minutes later, the England international claimed yet another assist as he released Mohamed Salah, who then fired past Edouard Mendy to put Liverpool 2-0 up.
Alexander-Arnold’s assist took his tally for the campaign to 12, while James missed the game at Stamford Bridge due to injury.
The England international was forced off during the first half of Wednesday’s 1-1 draw with Brighton after picking up a hamstring injury.
Speaking on the injury, Thomas Tuchel said: “With Reecey it’s a hamstring injury, a muscle injury, and as always with muscle injuries, the examination [results] comes a little bit later. You cannot rush these things."
Despite Liverpool taking a 2-0 lead in the capital, they would go in at the interval level after Mateo Kovacic and Christian Pulisic struck for Tuchel’s side.
The match would finish 2-2.
