Kai Havertz former Bayer Leverkusen teammate Roberto Hilbert has heaped praise on the Chelsea transfer target as the Blues look to push through a move.
The German international is one of Frank Lampard’s top transfer targets this summer, with transfer chief Marina Granovskaia working hard to reach a deal with the player’s club.
Havertz is keen on a move to Stamford Bridge, although his club are holding out for a fee of around £90 million.
Chelsea are looking to make the midfielder their third signing of the summer after the arrivals of Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner, as Lampard aimst to close the gap on Liverpool and Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table.
Speaking to Goal , former Bayer Leverkusen man Hilbert, has given his assessment of Havertz, and it’s good reading for the Blues.
“He is the next big, big player to come from Germany,” he said.
“I was there when he made his debut in our team at 17. In this generation, I think he will be a game-changer. He is a really smart player, quick and he is a nice person.
"He has some things Ballack had, some things Ozil had but he puts it into one package which is what makes him so dangerous.
“I think he has a level of talent that nobody else has. When Chelsea sign him for the next years then I think it will be a great chance to help them win titles in the Premier League.
"That’s how good he is. He worked hard, but he is a smart and humble person. That comes from his good family unit and he will continue to work hard and improve every day."
Chelsea are continuing talks with Leverkusen with the hope that the German side will drop their fee for the player in the coming weeks.
Havertz has played a total of 149 times for the first team, after graduating from the academy, scoring 45 goals and providing 31 assists.
