Chelsea fans will love what Grimsby Town star said about Reece James and Callum Hudson-Odoi

Chelsea's policy on developing young players has come in for plenty of criticism in recent years, but times are changing in west London.

That's the view of Grimsby Town goalkeeper James McKeown who hailed the professionalism of the Blues' young stars.

McKeown was on the receiving end of a 7-1 hammering at the hands of Chelsea, but fully admitted that he and his Grimsby teammates had come across a side who were destined for big things.

He admitted that it was a blow not to face the full senior team, but said that the side that they faced were not far off being at the same standard.

Speaking to Love Sport Radio, McKeown said: "As a lower league player going there you want to play their better players.

"You know it probably decreases your chances but you want to test yourself. With all due respect, you don't want to play against an under-23 team.

"The likes of Reece James played, (Callum) Hudson-Odoi played and they were very good - they were probably two of their better players on the night.

"From their point of view they were professional and ruthless. They were very good.

"In terms of the Chelsea I know, they're a different breed, if you like, obviously giving players a chance. In a couple of years time they'll be a force at the top of the table."
