Chelsea fans will love what Frank Lampard has said about Jose Mourinho and the Spurs job

Frank Lampard has revealed that he has exchanged a couple of messages with former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho after his appointment at Tottenham this week.

The Portuguese manager has been appointed as the new Spurs head coach, replacing Mauricio Pochettino, who was sacked by Tottenham on Tuesday evening.

And Lampard, who worked with Mourinho during his two spells as Chelsea boss, has been speaking about his former manager taking over at the Blues' rivals Tottenham.

"We had a couple of messages to congratulate him on his new role," Lampard said at his pre-match press conference ahead of the game against Manchester City tomorrow.

"I think history and results speak for themselves. He has done that consistently. It’s what we measure him and us as managers.

"It keeps him off Sky Sports for a while! He has got a good team. They were a lot of people’s favourites to be in the race. Pochettino did a great job. They have the structure there and will be a threat. They are in the top four race. When you look at the quality. The strength that they have, Kane and players like that."

Meanwhile, Lampard was asked about Mourinho's decision to join Tottenham and whether he would ever consider taking the Spurs job himself in his career, with the Chelsea legend providing a response that fans will love.

"That is only his decision and you make that as you go. Whether fans judge you or not is out of your hands. We have a tribal instinct," he said.

"I can firmly say no. We have to respect his right to work. I played here for 13 years, I am very proud to manage this club. I have friends who are Tottenham fans, it is not on my list."
