Chelsea fans will love what Christian Pulisic said about the future under Thomas Tuchel

Christian Pulisic is already aiming to defend the Champions League trophy Chelsea won on Saturday night against Manchester City.

The 22-year-old was a second-half substitute in the Blues' 1-0 win over Pep Guardiola's team in Porto and the American international said Chelsea are aiming to defend their title next season.

"I have some duty with [the] national team, take a little rest, put my head away and then we are going to come back and try and do the same again next season," Pulisic told CBS Sports after the game.

Pulisic had a glorious chance to make it 2-0 but the American lifted his chipped effort wide of the post, not that he was dwelling on his miss.

"I knew I was going to have to put in the hard work defensively, [but] I wish I put away the chance I had, I didn't quite get under it like I wanted but in the end, this team we were always going to win this game and I am proud of them," he said.

A visibly emotional Pulisic struggled to put his feelings into words when asked how the triumph had made him feel.

"I can't explain it, it is still such a shock, it is incredible. I have no words, I am so proud," he said.

"I am just so proud of this team. I am so thankful for all the support and to have people here today is amazing."

Pulisic joined Chelsea under Frank Lampard in 2019 but since the arrival of Thomas Tuchel has put in some fantastic performances for the Blues. None more so than when scoring the all-important away goal against Real Madrid in the Champions League semi-final.

Pulisic became just the second American male winner of the Champions League and the first to play in the final of the tournament and the momentous occasion was one the US international could barely grasp

"I am just so proud, I am so proud to be here," he said.

"I don't know man, it has been a difficult road for me, I couldn't imagine winning the Champions League in my whole life and now I am here it is just crazy."

Tuchel managed Pulisic at Borussia Dortmund before the pair linked up again at Chelsea and the German is set to stay at Blues for the long-term with Roman Abramovich believed to be keen to tie his manager down to a new deal.

Speaking after the win, Tuchel said: "We will speak tomorrow, we will speak later. I am looking forward to this. I can assure him that I will stay hungry. That I want the next title. That I feel absolutely happy as a part of a really ambitious club, a strong group that suits my beliefs, my passion about football in the moment perfectly, so my desire is to go for more victories.

"My desire is to grow as a coach and my desire is to push the group from the first day of the next season. This is what I am all about so it would be nice to meet him a bit closer. We are in contact, but not personally. We are in constant contact and he knows what’s going on from me indirectly and now it is nice to meet him."
