Chelsea fans will love what Alvaro Morata said about knocking Liverpool out of Champions League

Alvaro Morata did little to impress the Chelsea supporters during a two-year spell in west London.

He managed 24 goals in 72 appearances in all competitions - a goal every three games - failing to enamour himself with the Blues faithful.

But he did something they certainly would have enjoyed on Wednesday night by scoring the third goal in a 3-2 win for Atletico Madrid over Liverpool in the Champions League.

It meant Atletico won the last 16 tie 4-2 on aggregate knocking the Reds out of the competition and meaning they would not go on to defend their crown.

Liverpool dominated proceedings, but it was Diego Simeone's famed defensive approach that won them the tie and handed them a place in the last eight of the tournament.

And Morata knew it was going to happen.

It appears the Spanish striker is something of a soothsayer, having predicted the very result four months ago!

Speaking to COPE in November, the former Chelsea striker said, before either club had made it through to the knockout stages: "Liverpool may play against Atletico and may not reach the Champions League final.

"You never know. This is football; every team has their methods and we play our football."

Spooky right?

We now wait to find out if anyone will make it to this season's Champions League final, or whether the competition will be wiped out due to the coronavirus.

The tournament has been put on hold because of the pandemic sweeping across Europe and it remains to be seen whether or not any of Europe's top five leagues will be completed, or if the elite European competition will get to the end either.
