Chelsea fans will love Alan Shearer's Premier League top-four prediction

Alan Shearer has backed Chelsea to clinch finish fourth in the Premier League and clinch the final Champions League place this season.

The Blues have performed above many supporters' expectations having sat in the top four for most of the campaign.

Frank Lampard's side currently occupy fourth place, holding a five-point lead over their nearest rival, Manchester United.

London rivals Arsenal and Tottenham trail Chelsea by nine and 11 points, respectively, meaning the Blues will almost certainly end the season as the capital's top dogs.

With Liverpool, Manchester City and Leicester City all looking assured in the top three, Shearer has backed Chelsea to sneak into the final Champions League position.

After a dip in form during February, many had questioned whether the Blues would have enough, without January recruits, to see a top-four finish over the line.

Whilst there may yet prove to be arrivals at Stamford Bridge this month, Shearer believes Lampard will guide Chelsea into fourth, regardless.

"I think Chelsea will sneak the final spot and get fourth," the Premier League's record scorer told the  Chichester Observer.

"I’m sure they will do some business during the January transfer window to strengthen their side and ensure they stay where they are in the table."

Similarly, Shearer believes that the Premier League title race is over and it will be Liverpool holding the trophy in May.

"I don’t see it being won now by anyone else other than Liverpool," the former Newcastle number nine added.

"They’ve been superb and pretty much have two hands on the trophy already, they just can’t put it above their heads yet.

"It’s all but done and they deserve it. A club of that size need this trophy and its been a long wait to get it, but I think it could be wrapped up in March or April and they’ll finally have that title.”
