Chelsea fans' theory about what €50m Mateo Kovacic transfer could mean for Ruben Loftus-Cheek

Chelsea are reportedly set to sign Mateo Kovacic on a permanent deal.

The Croatia midfielder spent last season on loan at the west London outfit from Real Madrid and despite not winning over every fan due to his inconsistent performances, he seems to have done enough to earn a permanent transfer.

It was reported by Gianluca Di Marzio.com earlier in the week that the Blues reached an agreement with Los Blancos to sign Kovacic for €50m and the latest update is that the Croatia international has agreed terms and could be unveiled over the weekeend.

Chelsea are able to sign Kovacic despite their two-transfer window ban due to it being an extension of his registration.

But what does his imminent arrival mean for the Blues' midfield options under Frank Lampard, who remains favourite to succeed Maurizio Sarri as head coach, ahead of the new season?

Well, one would assume that N'Golo Kante's place is assured while Ross Barkley, Mason Mount, Jorginho and possibly Danny Drinkwater should feature in pre-season.

One player set to miss out is Ruben Loftus-Cheek .

The England midfielder missed the Europa League final win over Arsenal after sustaining an Achilles Injury in a post-Premier League season friendly against New England Revolution last month.

Expected to be out of action until November at the earliest, but one Chelsea fan took to Twitter and shared a theory that Loftus-Cheek's injury could be worse than first feared and that's why Kovacic has been bought.

Loftus-Cheek isn't the only Chelsea player recovering from injury.
