Chelsea fans spotted what Pepe did to Blues transfer flop Alvaro Morata

Former Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata was mocked by Porto defender Pepe during their battle in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

Playing for Juventus, Morata was up against the wily old Pepe throughout the second leg, relentlessly battling with the Portuguese centre-half.

Pepe mostly got the better of him, with his Porto side eventually shocking the Italian champions as they went through 4-4 on away goals after extra-time in the second leg left the score on the night 3-2.

Cristiano Ronaldo and Morata hung their heads in shame as the pair had failed to find a way past an inspired 38-year-old defender who had rolled back the years to his prime Real Madrid days - much of which were spent alongside Ronaldo.

During the game, Pepe, in typical playful and prickly fashion, mocked Morata after felling the Juventus striker, who he felt went down too easy under a typically robust challenge.

After the referee had given a foul, Pepe turned to him, rolled his eyes, and gesticulated as if to bemoan Morata's lack of strength and willingness to fall to the floor under even the slightest of contact.

Pepe, of course, is not known for the kindest of defensive approaches and while he may complain, he had committed a relatively clear foul.

Regardless, the moment captured the attention of Chelsea fans, who couldn't help but reflect on Morata's time at the club after an underwhelming performance from the Spaniard.

One fan joked: "Needed him to be offsides here."

Another said: "As frustrating as Werner is he is still much better than this guy."

Meanwhile, one fan questioned why Morata gets so much criticism from Chelsea fans, stating: "I really don’t understand why many Chelsea fans like to hate on certain ex-players."

Their stance was quickly rebutted by other fans however, who replied: "Because this one in particular disrespected the club after leaving with his stupid quotes for the media," and "the one ex player that deserves hate is this guy. Hating the likes of Willian etc. is insane though."

Chelsea are in their own Champions League last-16 second leg next week when they face Atletico Madrid.

Thomas Tuchel's side earned a precious 1-0 win in the 'away' first leg and will be hoping to protect the lead in the second leg.

If they copy the route of Morata and Juventus team-mates, however, the Blues may not fare much better.
