Chelsea fans spotted what Maurizio Sarri did as Ruben Loftus-Cheek was injured in friendly win

Ruben Loftus-Cheek is set for an extended stay on the sidelines after rupturing his Achilles tendon in Chelsea's friendly victory against MLS side New England Revolution.

Starting on the bench at Gillette Stadium, the England international came on but he was substituted in the 68th minute after going down clutching his left ankle.

The 23-year-old limped off the pitch and was later seen leaving the stadium on crutches.

Chelsea confirmed on Thursday that the player ruptured his Achilles tendon in the 3-0 win and will now have surgery on his injury.

Loftus-Cheek will now miss the Europa League final against Arsenal at the end of May, while it's not exactly clear at present when he will return for the Blues.

The player's injury has not gone down very well with Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri, who wasn't exactly keen for his team to play the friendly ahead of the final in Azerbaijan.

Letting the media know his thoughts on the game ahead of the trip, a video from one fan inside the ground shows how the Italian reacted when the midfielder was on the ground receiving treatment.

Throwing his coat to the floor in disgust with Loftus-Cheek down on the other side of the pitch, assistant boss Gianfranco Zola picked up the coat with Sarri looking absolutely livid on the bench.

Loftus-Cheek's injury now means that it will be between Ross Barkley and Mateo Kovacic for the final place in midfield providing N'Golo Kante returns from the hamstring issue he suffered against Watford.
