Chelsea fans send coaching staff crystal clear message over Marcos Alonso

Frank Lampard is still working out what his best XI for the new Premier League season is.

The new Chelsea head coach has watched his team in pre-season action in Ireland and Japan already this summer, while the Blues returned home and took on Reading on Sunday.

But Lampard's team selection left a number of supporters scratching their heads on Sunday.

Danny Drinkwater and Tiemoue Bakayoko were both handed a start to impress, and after what a group of Blues supporters did on Twitter on Saturday, they would have been aghast to see Marcos Alonso starting the match at the Madejski too.

Alonso came in for a lot of criticism from the Chelsea faithful during Maurizio Sarri's only season in charge at Stamford Bridge, with the majority calling on the Italian to give Emerson Palmieri a chance.

Alonso was the first choice left-back in the Premier League, though, playing 31 of the 38 games, with Emerson restricted to Europa League action.

Emerson looks to be the favourite to secure that left-back berth for the opening game of the season away at Manchester United, and when Jody Morris posted on Twitter and Instagram on Saturday, he was given a crystal-clear message over how the fans feel.

The diminutive Morris posted a photo of himself in between two Chelsea players on the training ground, both of whom dwarfed him. He posted it with the caption: "Can you find me two lads who are exceedingly tall to stand either side of me for a photo please....ok."

But the main replies to his post had nothing to do with Morris' hilarious post, but more to do with the club's transfer strategy and the fans wanting to see the back of Alonso.

There were more than 100 responses to Morris' tweet showing the same photo as the one in the tweet above.

You can see all the replies in Morris' tweet above.
