Chelsea fans noticed what Mason Mount did before Olivier Giroud's goal against Atletico Madrid

Chelsea fans have spotted what Mason Mount did during Tuesday night's win over Atletico Madrid.

The Blues secured an 'away leg' win over Diego Simeone's men in Bucharest with Olivier Giroud scoring the winner after what was a tight affair in the Champions League Round of 16 clash.

The ultra-organised Atleti left Chelsea frustrated despite their dominance, at least until the 68th minute when Giroud pulled off a superb overhead kick.

It took almost three minutes for the goal to be given due to confusion over whether Atletico defender Mario Hermoso deliberately played the ball to Giroud, who was in an offside position.

But it was eventually decided the action was deliberate, rendering Giroud onside and the goal a valid one. It's an important one, too, Chelsea taking an away goal into the second leg on March 17.

After the game, Chelsea noticed Giroud's teammate Mount and what the midfielder did just before the all-important goal in Romania.

Mount was pictured celebrating the goal before it even went in, throwing his arms in the air as the ball bounced before flying into Jan Oblak's bottom corner.

2000bt said on Reddit: "He knew that Ollie doesn't miss bangers," and Zomby_kid added: "Great catch! This is awesome as no one knew except him that the last touch was off the defender. Great VAR check in this instance!"

As pointed out by our Chelsea correspondent Adam Newson below, the midfielder had a good view of where the ball was going, standing on the edge of the box, but he won't have the best view of the second leg.

Mount will miss the second leg next month after picking up a yellow card within minutes of Tuesday night's win, bringing down Joao Felix, who was on the break.

He and Jorginho have now reached the yellow card limit and as a result, they will be forced to sit out the second leg when Chelsea will have to defend a one-goal lead against the La Liga leaders.
