Chelsea fans noticed what happened to Conor Gallagher after starting for West Brom vs Tottenham

Chelsea fans kept a close eye on West Bromwich Albion's Premier League clash against Tottenham Hotspur.

But not to see if Spurs were able to get the win at the Hawthorns to leapfrog them in the table, rather to see how wonderkid Conor Gallagher fared against top-level opposition.

The midfielder joined the Baggies on a season-long loan deal in the summer transfer window, but not after signing a new five-year contract at Chelsea.

Chelsea v Sheffield United: Frank Lampard press conference

After making his debut against Brentford in the EFL Cup in September, Gallagher has become a regular in the West Brom side under Slaven Bilic.

So much so that his latest appearance against Spurs was the fourth game in a row that the 20-year-old has started a Premier League game for the Baggies.

However, he's yet to be on the winning side with his loan club.

Gallagher and West Brom were a couple of minutes away - plus injury time - from holding Jose Mourinho's side to a goalless draw which would have stopped them from going top of the table.

Harry Kane broke the deadlock in the 88th minute which means Spurs will go into the international break as league leaders unless Leicester City and Liverpool get the required results to overtake them.

Despite being on the wrong side of a 1-0 scoreline, some Chelsea and West Brom fans were encouraged with what they saw from Gallagher who lined up in a defensive midfield position.
