Chelsea fans notice what Billy Gilmour did to Timo Werner in training ahead of Burnley clash

Chelsea will be aiming to build on their midweek triumph over FC Krasnodar in the Champions League when they travel to Turf Moor to face Burnley on Saturday afternoon.

After three consecutive draws against Southampton, Sevilla and Manchester United, respectively, Chelsea got back to winning ways on Wednesday evening with an emphatic 4-0 victory in Russia.

After Jorginho missed an early penalty, Chelsea got their noses in front shortly before half time thanks to a long-range effort from Callum Hudson-Odoi. Goals in the second half from Timo Werner, Hakim Ziyech, who was making his first competitive start for the club, and Christian Pulisic wrapped up the win once and for all, ensuring the Blues posted their first Champions League win of the campaign.

Though the victory over Krasnodar will have given everyone connected with the Blues a lift, they know they will need to record a three-point haul against Burnley to shake off some recent criticism.

The Blues have won just two of their first six Premier League matches, with the recent draw with Southampton being seen as a contest where the Blues dropped two points.

However, to ensure they will be in the best possible shape for the long trip to Lancashire, the Blues' players were pictured putting the hard yards in on the training ground on Friday, with Frank Lampard determined to see his side secure a return to winning ways in the league.

Whilst summer signing Thiago Silva participated in training after missing the trip to Russia on Wednesday, there was also a return to first-team training for long-term absentee Billy Gilmour.

The Scottish youngster has been sidelined since July with a serious knee injury and is not expected to make a return to action until late-November. However, the midfield ace is certainly heading in the right direction, with him having taken part in training alongside the likes of N'Golo Kante, Jorginho, Kai Havertz and Werner.

And it was Werner, it would appear, that Gilmour had plenty of fun with during the training session.

Once training was complete, Gilmour took to Instagram to post two images of him taking on Werner in a one-on-one situation.

The first image Gilmour posted was of him knocking the ball between the legs of the German striker whilst the second showed a picture of him laughing and Werner donning a grin, but appearing as though he could not believe what had just happened.

Not only will Gilmour have enjoyed that moment, but he will have also enjoyed the experience of being back out on the training pitch after such a lengthy lay-off.

On when the Scotland international could return to action, Lampard, speaking earlier this month, said: "Billy’s working really well, he’s probably three weeks away from his return.

"He’s working outside on his own with the physios still, we hope that he’ll integrate with either ourselves or the Under-23s to get some training minutes.

"So hopefully three or four weeks, probably the other side of the next international break all being well."
