Chelsea fans make the same Arsenal joke as transfer target Dayot Upamecano costs RB Leipzig

For Chelsea supporters, life is pretty good.

The club will return to action in two weeks' time sitting fourth in the Premier League table and they should be safe in the knowledge that they will have two new players in the squad ahead of the 2020/21 campaign.

Hakim Ziyech has already signed, while a £53million deal to sign Timo Werner from RB Leipzig is close to completion.

It puts the Blues in a healthy position, with none of the other big six making their moves yet, with the coronavirus crisis set to cause havoc with finances heading into the transfer window.

James Benge Arsenal Q&A

Arsenal have been linked with one of Werner's team-mates i the past - Dayot Upamecano.

Upamecano is a highly-rated centre-back and with Arsenal short of quality in that department, they have been tipped to make moves for him in more than one of the previous transfer windows.

Financial restrictions are likely to see them look elsewhere for cheaper alternatives this summer, but he has remained on their radar.

And with Chelsea fans watching Werner in action against Paderborn on Saturday, they took great delight in seeing what happened to the Arsenal transfer target.

Booked in the first half, Upamecano was sent off on the stroke of half-time for kicking the ball away no less - a ludicrous way to see red, leaving his Leipzig team-mates to battle to hold on to their one-goal advantage.

And that red card, and his display over all, led to a number of Chelsea supporters poking fun at Arsenal for being interested in the youngster.

Many, in fact, felt Upamecano would fit right in at the Emirates, given their recent history with centre-backs.

A tad harsh.
