Chelsea fans make Ethan Ampadu transfer claim after Leeds United defeat

Chelsea youngster Ethan Ampadu impressed on his first Premier League start for Sheffield United this afternoon.

The 20-year-old joined the Blades on a season-long loan for the 2020/21 campaign after spending last term with RB Leipzig.

Ampadu made his Sheffield United debut in the EFL Cup game away to Burnely, before replacing David McGoldrick after half an hour of the 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa.

The Wales international was given his first start today (Sunday) as Chris Wilder’s men slipped to a third straight defeat at home to Leeds United.

Despite Patrick Bamford’s late goal sealing a 1-0 win for Leeds, Ampadu caught the eye – particularly of the watching Chelsea fans.

Here’s what they were saying on social media, with a number surprised the Blues let him go.

@McMwiti: Ampadu already looks better than the defenders we have left at Chelsea.

@ChelseaYannick: Really hope things continue like this for Ampadu this season. Could be massive for the youngster.

@Lufbra_Legend: I’m not lying Ethan Ampadu is Chelsea’s best defender.

@Daniel_Evans56: Can't wait to see Ampadu starting next season at Chelsea.

@FrankKhalidUK: Really didn’t understand why we let Ethan Ampadu go on loan when we clearly need a player like him right now. That’s why I’m convinced that Chelsea must be planning to buy a defensive midfielder in the remaining window.

@ChatsOnChelsea: Ampadu is so good to watch. When he steps into midfield with the ball never looks like losing it.

@__Alex_Heine__: I will never understand why Chelsea let Ampadu go out this year. I think if he was in our squad he would be are 3rd best defender behind Silva and Zouma.
