Chelsea fans have a brilliant Champions League theory after losing at home to Arsenal

Chelsea's long unbeaten home record against Arsenal came to an end on Wednesday night.

In a game that Thomas Tuchel's side largely dominated, the only goal was of their own doing as a mix-up between Jorginho and Kepa Arrizabalaga eventually allowed Emile Smith Rowe to score.

That sealed a 1-0 win for the Gunners, their first victory over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in any competition since the 2011/12 season.

As expected, when speaking after the London derby, Tuchel was less than happy with the manner of Smith Rowe's goal as well as the performance from his side in such an important game.

"Of course, and maybe, I don't know if we should have to go a penalty for handball in front of the line to save a clear goal," Tuchel said in his post-match press conference. "It was not even checked, then you concede a goal like this and you cannot score from your biggest chances.

"But in the end, we were not on the pitch with the same energy. It's not easy to come up with big intensity with same passing.

"We were not sharp enough, not with the same energy, hunger, attitude, and like we used to play.

"So it's on us. It was totally unnecessary but it's the reality."

With that said, some Chelsea fans on Reddit have found one major positive from losing at home to Arsenal as the last time it happened, the Blues went on to win the Champions League.

Perhaps the stars have aligned as history could repeat itself at the end of the month with Tuchel's side facing Manchester City for the right to claim Europe's richest prize.

KanteForBallonDor said: "I think we take a loss to Arsenal in exchange for winning the UCL."

imnotcreative635 said: "I'd take this arsenal loss if it means we win our remaining games."

mapepoAzpilicueta said: "Jorginho and Havertz paying the ultimate sacrifice for salvation. The heroes we need."
