Chelsea fans go nuts as 'best in the league' Thomas Tuchel is appointed head coach

Chelsea fans have been reacting on social media to the appointment of Thomas Tuchel.

Tuchel was confirmed as the club's new head coach on an 18-month contract with a possibility of an extension this evening following the sacking of Frank Lampard on Monday night after a disappointing first half of the campaign.

Lampard struggled this season despite the influx of new signings and the spending of more than £200million during the summer.

The Blues picked up just two wins from their last eight Premier League outings before Lampard was handed his P45, and from there, it appeared there was only one man from the job.

Former PSG and Borussia Dortmund boss Tuchel was quickly installed as favourite and he has been appointed in just over 24 hours following his arrival at Cobham this evening.

Training was pushed back until 6pm so that new boss Tuchel could take the session ahead of tomorrow's Premier League clash with Wolves, and the club confirmed that the T's had been crossed and I's dotted shortly after.

Tuchel will now take charge of that clash against Wolves in what will be a quick turnaround for the German after meeting many of his players for the first time this evening.

Never the less, Chelsea fans are feeling pretty optimistic about their chances and the appointment overall.

Here's how a selection of fans reacted on Twitter to the announcement.

Tuchel takes over a Chelsea side five points behind Liverpool and the top four and 11 points off leaders Manchester United with half of their Premier League fixtures already played.

The Blues are also still in the Champions League with La Liga leaders Atletico Madrid to play in the Round of 16, so Tuchel will be aiming for at least a top-four finish in the league and a good run in Europe as he looks to get his feet under the table during his first half-season at the club.
