Chelsea fans excited about Ben Chilwell transfer after Danny Drinkwater drops Instagram hint

Chelsea fans have taken to social media after Blues midfielder Danny Drinkwater posted a picture of himself alongside Ben Chilwell on Instagram.

The Blues have already spent heavily in the summer transfer window with deals completed for Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech, and talks are ongoing for Bayer Leverkusen's Kai Havertz.

But Chelsea head coach Frank Lampard is also keen on signing a new left-back ahead of next season, and football.london understands Leicester City left-back Chilwell is among the Blues' top targets.

With doubts over the futures of Emerson Palmieri and Marcos Alonso, Lampard is targeting a new full-back, and Chilwell is thought to be top of the Blues' list after his impressive season at the King Power Stadium.

And Drinkwater got fans talking after uploading an image on his Instagram account on Monday afternoon.

The Chelsea midfielder, who moved to Stamford Bridge from Leicester in 2017, posted a picture of himself standing next to Chilwell on holiday, with the location given as the Greek island of Mykonos.

The caption read: 'Summer scouting mission! great guy and some footballer too @benchilwell.'

Some fans were quick to respond, with many pointing out the 'scouting mission' part of Drinkwater's post.

One wrote: "Agent Drinkwater!" Another posted: "Tell him to lower Leicester’s price, no way we paying 60-80 mil."

When asked about Chilwell's future, Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers insisted he is "relaxed" about the England defender's situation.

“They may look to," he said, when asked about rival clubs targeting Chilwell.

"It is something I am quite relaxed on.

“I am fortunate we have a talented group of players which I am sure will interest some.

“All we can offer is a wonderful environment to come and play , develop , work in and improve as a player.

“We will see where it goes from there over the course of the off-season.”
