Chelsea facing "conundrum" over goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga's future

Chelsea are struggling to come to a decision on the future of goalkeeper and record-signing Kepa Arrizabalaga.

The Spaniard was signed for over £70m less than two years ago but has failed to convince some at Stamford Bridge.

So much so that Frank Lampard dropped the 25-year-old for a series of games at the turn of the year.

Chelsea are open to selling Kepa but after assessing how much interest there is in the shot stopper and considering their options with few suitors coming forward, reports ESPN.

Willy Caballero, who has deputised for Kepa, is out on contract this summer.

It leaves Lampard with a decision to make regarding his No 1 moving forward.

The club are set to add in the transfer market having been unable to do so last year and signing a new goalkeeper is a possibility.

Kepa was welcomed back into the fold when the Blues beat Liverpool on March 3 and played in their most recent outing - a 4-0 win over Everton on March 8.

However the Blues have shipped 39 goals in their 29 Premier League games - only one less than 15th-placed Brighton.

Lampard had said he wanted a "reaction" from Kepa upon initially leaving him out.

"It was just a selection on that day," claimed the Chelsea boss. "But I want everyone's reaction to be spot on and he came out of the team.

"I know how that feels and what it would have meant to him. Every player [gets dropped], except maybe [Lionel] Messi or [Cristiano] Ronaldo.

"I don't expect smiley faces when people get dropped, I just expect reactions. With the competition in squads now … you have to always be aware that if your standards drop or if the manager chooses for whatever reason, [to leave you out] you need to handle it in the right way."
