Chelsea face Jorginho contract issue that only Todd Boehly can solve with Kalidou Koulibaly

There are a number of reasons why Jorginho deserves a new contract with Chelsea. Just to name a couple, his ability to control the midfield in possession is unrivalled. He is a passing genius and quite frankly, he suits Thomas Tuchel's system perfectly. Putting all the technicalities aside, his bromance with new signing Kalidou Koulibaly is just the sweetest thing ever. The pair developed a friendship during their time at former club Napoli. When Jorginho left in 2018, an innocent video of the pair saying goodbye to each other surfaced. Now they are reunited and it could make for a nice dynamic among the squad.

Bromances often go underrated in the football world - however, it is a healthy ingredient for a strong team ethic. Jorginho has become somewhat of a popular figure amongst the Chelsea fan base, and it looks to be the case in the dressing room. With one year left on his contract, why not give him an extension?

Thomas Tuchel has been working on a squad rebuild as an integral decision maker in Todd Boehly's transfer approvals. As much as the rebuild is beginning to come together, it is imperative that the Blues address contracts that run out next year including Jorginho's and N'golo Kante's.

Jorginho had been tipped with a move back to Italy as early as last. year. His agent described a move back to Italy for his client as a "dream". Thomas Tuchel has made it very clear that he would like to close the gap between Chelsea, Man City, and Liverpool. Using the end of last season as a measurement, the Blues are still far off of the two big boys. What would losing Jorginho do to that dream of closing the gap?

Jorginho has been an integral part of how Chelsea play for almost four years now. His unicorn attributes make him a difficult player to replace, so if Tuchel opts to sell him, he may also need to look at a completely new way of playing. I mean, that's not necessarily a bad thing. Having a more traditional defensive midfielder would work a treat. But what if Chelsea are unable to secure a target like Declan Rice? With 3 weeks to go until the season commences, it's unlikely that Rice would be a Chelsea player in time if Jorginho was to depart.

Losing Jorginho would be a big adjustment for the squad on and off the pitch. The Blues have already lost Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen due to contractual disagreements, can they afford to lose Jorginho too? Todd Boehly must put it on his list of priorities before the transfer window shuts. Decide on Jorginho's future - not just for the sake of the team, but for the fans who cannot bare to stand another Rudiger/Christensen saga next season.
