Chelsea’s transfer funds for the upcoming transfer window look set to take a hit with Inter Milan reportedly not willing to meet the asking price for Emerson.
The Italian giants have been strongly linked with a move for the Blues defender, with new Inter boss Simone Inzaghi having also reportedly approved a move.
However, there appears to be a slight sticking point in any potential transfer with the Italians reportedly unwilling to meet Chelsea ’s £17.2 million (€20m) asking price according to Sky Sport Italia.
A move back to his homeland might only be possible should the London club lower their demands during the transfer window.
It remains to be seen whether that would be the case but Emerson remains to have other suitors away from Inter including Napoli and Lazio.
The 26-year-old has struggled to hold down a first-team place at Chelsea since a 2017 move from AS Roma.
He has so far represented the Blues on 70 occasions in all competitions, netting twice.
His contract is set to run for only a further season so Thomas Tuchel must ideally sell this summer or risk losing the defender for a nominal fee or on a free transfer next year.
Emerson might not be the only Chelsea defender to be leaving for Serie A, with Fikayo Tomori also reportedly one of AC Milan’s prime summer targets.
