Chelsea extend NHS free meals initiative as West Ham support local trusts

Chelsea have extended their support to NHS staff and charity workers in London by two weeks.

The Blues, who have also opened two hotels at Stamford Bridge to NHS staff free of charge, have been supplying 14,000 free meals a week to hospitals, care workers and charities in London since last month.

The plan was initially set to last six weeks and see 78,000 meals distributed, but will now be extended by at least a fortnight to take the figure to 115,520.

The meals are being supplied to the five hospitals under the umbrella of the Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust.

Meanwhile, across London, West Ham are championing NHS Trusts in their region after talks with local trust figures over how they could best help out.

The initiative includes support from the club's foundation and morale-boosting donations from the club to NHS staff and patients - including 1,000 shirts and messages from players.

“It is a privilege for the Club to be able to support Barts Charity, and King George and Queen’s hospitals, who are working on our doorstep in East London," said West Ham vice-chair Karren Brady.

"NHS staff are tackling COVID-19 on the frontline every day and they are the true heroes in this, sacrificing so much in the process."
