Here are the Chelsea evening headlines on Thursday, September 3.
Havertz had “heart set” on Madrid move
Kai Havertz had his “heart set” on a move to Real Madrid before the La Liga champions pulled out of a move for the German, according to Marca.
The Spanish outlet says that Havertz, who is set to sign for Chelsea in the coming days, was desperate for a move to the Santiago Bernabeu before the coronavirus pandemic changed things.
Havertz even rejected a move to Bayern Munich, as he waited for Madrid to come in, according to the report.
The German attacking midfielder is on the verge of becoming a Blues player after months of speculation linking him with a move to Stamford Bridge.
“Final details” on Havertz done
Chelsea and Bayer Leverkusen have finally reached an agreement over the sale of Havertz, according to Sky Deutschland.
Havertz is set to fly to London and complete his medical on Saturday, if the German national team grants him permission to do just that.
The report states that the deal’s structure is still unclear at this stage, and could be paid in instalments.
The 21-year-old has scored 36 goals and assisted 25 times in 249 Bundesliga games following his league debut in 2016.
