Chelsea evening headlines as transfer mission after Havertz deal is revealed and Kante update

Here are your Chelsea headlines for the evening of Friday July 24.

Kante injury update ahead of Wolves clash

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has revealed that N’Golo Kante will be fit to face Wolves in the Blues’ final match of the Premier League season on Sunday.

The 29-year-old has struggled with injuries this season and Lampard has revealed Kante will undergo fitness tests ahead of the crunch clash with Wolves that will go a long way to deciding who qualifies for next season’s Champions League.

“There's a possibility that he'll feature, he's trained, probably for the first time, towards at match pace this morning,” Lampard said.

"So it's a decision I'll have to make, talking to him, with the medical team, to see if he's ready to start."

Liverpool bench 'crossed a line'

Lampard has insisted the Liverpool bench “crossed a line” in the incident that sparked a spat between the Chelsea manager and Jurgen Klopp on Wednesday night.

The flare up happened after Mateo Kovacic was adjudged to have fouled Sadio Mane, leading to Trent Alexander-Arnold’s stunning freekick goal.

Lampard was furious with the decision and become involved in an argument with Klopp and members of the Liverpool bench.

“I've seen the video and I was obviously there,” the Chelsea manager said. "I think in terms of the language I used, I do regret that, because I think these things get replayed a lot on social media.

He continued: “I would have had a beer with Jurgen Klopp after the game and toasted the performance of what they've done this year.

"But there were things on the line I didn't like from their bench, not Jurgen, people behind the bench, which I felt crossed the line, and that's what got me agitated.”

Chelsea boss has already made decision on next transfer target

Chelsea manager Lampard has already decided where he will turn his focus in the transfer market once a deal to sign Kai Havertz from Bayer Leverkusen is completed.

The Blues boss, according to ESPN , will focus on signing a new goalkeeper, with Lampard still unconvinced by Kepa Arrizabalaga.

The Spaniard now looks set to be moved on this summer just two years after his £71.6 million signing from Athletic Club.

Ajax’s Andre Onana, Atletico Madrid’s Jan Oblak and Manchester United’s Dean Henderson, who has impressed on loan at Sheffield United this season, have all been mentioned as potential targets for Chelsea.

Lampard is concerned by Kepa’s lack of ability to command his penalty area and in his weakness in the aerial challenge and so could move quickly to sign a replacement once Havertz is in the door.
