Chelsea evening headlines as Timo Werner backed amid Erling Haaland transfer hint

Here are your Chelsea evening headlines for Thursday, February 18.

Saints boss backs Werner

Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl has backed Chelsea striker Timo Werner to return to his best form.

Werner has struggled following his £47.6million move from RB Leipzig, but the German seems to be regaining confidence under new boss Thomas Tuchel, scoring against Newcastle last time out.

And that is no surprise to Southampton boss Hasenthuttl, who said ahead of his side's clash with Chelsea: "There are still a lot of good players at Chelsea, so many offensive players with quality, but he is always going to part of a successful team.

Thomas Tuchel explains why Christian Pulisic didn't feature against Newcastle

"Thomas [Tuchel] knows him very well and knows exactly how to handle Timo. He scored once, two goals against us, but that's enough I think!"

Haaland teases transfer

Erling Haaland has teased a transfer amid links with Chelsea ahead of this summer.

The Borussia Dortmund star is said to be atop Chelsea's transfer shortlist ahead of the summer, but the Blues are not the only club to express an interest.

A number of clubs, including Real Madrid and Manchester United, have been linked with a move for the Dortmund star, who could cost more than £100million ahead of next season.

Amid those neverending transfer links, Haaland showed his worth with two goals in the Champions League for Dortmund against Sevilla in a 3-2 away win on Wednesday night.

And after that first leg brace, Haaland was quizzed about links with Real Madrid, and his answer might just interest Chelsea fans.

Asked how it feels to desired by Real Madrid fans, Haaland replied: "It's always nice if someone wants you."

Hudson-Odoi talks Atletico Madrid

Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi has been speaking about the Blues' Champions League clash this coming Tuesday.

“I’m really excited! It’s a massive game against Atletico, who we know are a big team and are doing really well this season," he told the club website. "We want to go into that game with the mentality of trying to win and trying to get through to the next round.

“It will be a different game to what we were expecting, going to Romania instead of Spain, but it’s going to be big for us either way.

“We all know football is a crazy sport and it can go either way. You can be winning one minute and the next minute you’re losing, especially in the Champions League.

“Our aim is just to give it everything we’ve got and let’s see if we can make it through.”
