Chelsea evening headlines as Thomas Tuchel addresses Upamecano and Haaland transfer links

Here are your Chelsea evening headlines for Wednesday, February 10.

Terry makes Mount prediction

Chelsea legend John Terry is backing Mason Mount to follow in his footsteps and one day become club captain at Stamford Bridge.

Terry made the admission during an Instagram Live as he lavished the Blues attacking-midfielder with praise.

Mount was handed the responsibility of the Chelsea captaincy in the fourth round of the FA Cup against Luton Town and Terry believes the former Derby County loanee has the credentials to make the armband a permanent fixture of his match-day attire.

"He [Mason Mount] has been the best Chelsea player this season," Terry said. "He's been here since the age of six, he trains very well and is showing leadership qualities.

"Future Chelsea and England captain [for sure]."

Despite some tipping Mount to fall out-of-favour at Stamford Bridge following Frank Lampard's departure last month, the midfielder has remained a key figure within Thomas Tuchel's plans so far, with his performance against Sheffield United on Sunday evening at Bramall Lane highlighting exactly why he should be in the team.

Tuchel addresses transfer speculation

Blues chief Tuchel has refused to comment on transfer speculation linking RB Leipzig centre-back Dayot Upamecano and Borussia Dortmund sensation Erling Haaland with summer moves to Stamford Bridge.

In recent months, the Blues have been heavily linked with the duo, who have both been making tremendous strides in the Bundesliga.

Since Tuchel arrived at Stamford Bridge just over two weeks ago, speculation linking the pair with moves to west London this summer have soared because of the German's connections with the Bundesliga.

However, Tuchel is refusing to give anything away in regards to transfers at this stage of the year.

Speaking ahead of Chelsea's trip to Barnsley in the FA Cup fifth round tomorrow, Tuchel said: "I can understand your interest in the question and the interest of every fan and supporter to talk about these subjects.

"I am always a fan and am interested in what’s going on. But now it is February and there is a long way to go.

"As you get to know me, you will know I will not talk about other players publicly when are under contract. This is the type of respect we show to them but also to our own players.

"We think about our central defenders and strikers first and push them to the limits. Everything else will be decided behind closed doors. I’m sorry."

Rudiger explains why duo have stuttered

Centre-back Antonio Ruidger has revealed that German duo Kai Havertz and Timo Werner have struggled to hit the high notes in their debut season at Stamford Bridge because it is the first time they have played their club football away from their homeland.

Havertz and Werner joined the Blues last summer from Bayer Leverkusen and RB Leipzig, respectively, but have so far struggled to live up to their hefty-sized price tags.

For Rudiger, though, they still need time to adapt to the country and style of the English game.

“It was a little easier for me as England wasn’t my first experience abroad,” Rudiger told Sky Germany, as quoted by the Metro.

“My time in Italy helped me. It was maybe different from my game.

“Everything in England was faster and physically even harder than in Italy and Germany in my opinion.

“You have to adapt to that but that happened relatively quickly.”
