Chelsea evening headlines as Thiago Silva sends message to Frank Lampard following sacking

Here are your Chelsea evening headlines for Monday, February 2.

Tuchel faces three difficult decisions

With the January transfer window now officially closed for business, head coach Thomas Tuchel knows exactly what he has to work with between now and the end of the season.

The German, who succeeded Frank Lampard at Stamford Bridge last week, has a big squad to work with for the remainder of the campaign, meaning he is likely to face selection dilemmas in the weeks and months to come.

Whilst deciding on who plays in certain positions will be a given, such as Edouard Mendy starting between the sticks and Thiago Silva lining up at centre-back, deciding who plays at left wing-back, the duo who take up residency in central-midfield and who he opts for as his favoured out-and-out striker may not be so easy.

Billy Gilmour staying at Chelsea is the right move

In his first two matches in charge, Marcos Alonso has nailed down the left wing-back berth whilst Olivier Giroud and Tammy Abraham have each held the responsibility of acting as the No.9.

Silva sends message to Lampard

Brazilian defender Thiago Silva has sent a classy message to former Blues chief Lampard just over a week from his sacking.

Lampard was axed by the Blues last Monday after a run of five defeats in eight Premier League matches.

Despite the woes the Blues experienced in the latter stages of the former England international's time in charge, Silva has paid credit to the work Lampard did.

In a short message, Silva said: "Remembering that I am very grateful to Lampard for he did for me here!!"

Chelsea face three-way transfer battle

Manchester City are ready to rival both Arsenal and Chelsea in the race to sign Inter Milan wing-back Achraf Hakimi, according to reports in Italy.

After impressing over the course of the last two seasons on loan at Borussia Dortmund, Inter launched a move to sign the Moroccan international on a permanent basis from Real Madrid last summer.

Although Hakimi has soon become a mainstay in Antonio Conte's plans at the San Siro, there is speculation circulating that Inter have not paid Madrid the first instalment of the money they owe them for the transfer fee, suggesting they may be forced to sell in him in a bid to raise the funds.

Arsenal and Chelsea are both very keen on the wing-back, who cost Inter £35million, but City have now entered the running, suggesting it could be a heated battle to land the former Dortmund ace.
